Atlético Madrid set to complete signing of Gelson Martins

Atlético Madrid are reportedly set to confirm the signing of Gelson Martins.

According to AS, Gelson will join Los Rojiblancos for €25m despite interest from a number of top clubs across Europe.

Sporting were initially demanding €60m for his services but were forced to settle for a smaller sum due to unrest between supporters and players.

Nine players in total terminated their deals with Sporting – including Rui Patrício and William Carvalho – who have joined Wolves and Real Bétis respectively.

The 23-year-old had a strong campaign last season, directly contributing to 26 goals in 52 games.

Should a deal go through, Gelson will be Atlético’s third summer signing after Thomas Lemar from Monaco and Rodri from Villarreal.
