Atletico Madrid are ready to battle for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Following a breathtaking 2022 World Cup campaign with Morocco, Amrabat tried to force a move to Barcelona in January.
The Catalan giants explored a last-minute loan deal – which was also recently confirmed from the player’s side – but La Viola insisted on a €40 million fee, causing the move to collapse.
It left the 26-year-old disappointed as he was keen on taking up the next challenge of his career after seeing his value rise swiftly following the World Cup.
Amrabat may get his wish come the summer after declining a contract extension offer from La Viola, with his current deal expiring in 2024.
The Florence-based outfit will be looking to offload Amrabat in the summer to avoid the chances of him leaving for free.
Atletico also believe they have a great chance to persuade the Moroccan international after he previously declared his admiration for the club and manager Diego Simeone.
A new midfielder is one of the priorities for the Colchoneros in the transfer market with a view to adding more quality and strength to the squad.
There are uncertainties over the futures of Saul Niguez and Geoffrey Kondogbia, who have fallen down the pecking order at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Amrabat would be a great upgrade for the Spanish capital giants, but it remains to be seen whether they can meet his valuation of €40m amid their financial troubles.
There is also tough competition from the Premier League, with Liverpool keeping tabs on Amrabat.
