With finances tight, Atletico Madrid will likely delve into the free-agent pool next summer in order to bolster their squad. And, according to AS, the Rojiblancos have identified Borussia Monchengladbach and France forward Marcus Thuram as a possible target for 2023.

The 25-year-old has been with Gladbach for over three years now, having joined the Bundesliga outfit from Guingamp in 2019 and has grown into one of the most dangerous forward in the German top flight.

In 119 appearances for Gladbach, Thuram has netted 41 goals, with 13 of those coming from 17 matches in the ongoing season. The 25-year-old is currently a part of the France squad taking part in the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Able to play in multiple positions in the frontline, the French international was being targeted by clubs like Tottenham and Inter Milan this past summer, but a move did not materialise.

However, with his contract with the Bundesliga club expiring at the end of the season, Thuram is expected to move on, with Atletico Madrid emerging as a potential suitor.

Los Rojiblancos could be set for a revamp of their attacking unit in the near future as Joao Felix and Matheus Cunha appear to have no future at the Civitas Metropolitano. Alvaro Morata has not been consistent enough either and additional firepower is needed.

This is where Thuram enters the picture. He has proven to be a reliable goalscorer for Borussia Monchengladbach and would be a free agent in the summer, which appeals to Los Colchoneros.

However, as per the report, Arsenal and Liverpool are also said to be interested in signing Thuram next year while Inter Milan are also said to be considering a swoop for him in January itself.

So, Atletico Madrid will have to be swift in their approach if they wish to convince Thuram to join them next year.
