After abandoning their pursuit of Cristian Romero, Atlético Madrid have turned their attention back to Feyenoord’s David Hancko, according to Diario AS.

Tottenham wanted at least €70 million for Romero, prompting Atlético to pull the plug on negotiations. The Madrid side are now exploring the market again and may end up with an old acquaintance in Hancko.

Diario AS suggest that Piero Hincapié (Bayer Leverkusen), Murillo (Nottingham Forest), and Jhon Lucumi (Bologna) are also on the radar. Hancko and Hincapié are considered the strongest candidates.

Atlético attempted to pry the Slovakian defender from Feyenoord a year ago, but the Spanish side were unsuccessful. That said, Atlético haven’t forgotten Hancko. Feyenoord hasn’t received any new offers yet. Hancko is expected to fetch around €35 million, which would set a transfer record in Rotterdam.

Initially, Hancko seemed well on his way to Al Nassr, but after a change of management at the Saudi Arabian club, his arrival is no longer a priority. This week, the defender began pre-season training. Rumours have also linked him to Juventus again.
