Ahead of Atlético Madrid’s match against Osasuna on Sunday evening, Diego Simeone announced his 21-man squad for the tie.

The squad chosen didn’t have many surprises, except for Thomas Lemar, who has been called up for the penultimate matchday of the season.

This call-up is Lemar’s first appearance in a matchday squad since September when he ruptured his achilles.

Lemar has only played three matches this season, back in August and September 2023.

He also faced another setback last month when he picked up a hip injury just when he looked like he was returning to fitness.

With Lemar’s contract running through until 2027, he will be looking to make a full return to fitness ahead of next season, and will hope to break back into Atlético’s starting XI.

Atléti heads into the match against Osasuna with the possibility of overtaking Girona and entering third place, but only if Girona drop points away to Valencia.

Meanwhile, Osasuna sit comfortably in mid-table, level on points with Sevilla (41) and in 13th place.
