It’s only mid-June but it seems like Sporting CP playmaker Bruno Fernandes has been already been linked with every big club in Europe.
Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham, Inter and AC Milan are just some of the many clubs said to be keeping tabs on the 24-year-old.
But according to Portuguese outlet A Bola, only one club have so far put their money where their mouth is. That club is Atlético Madrid.
Their report states that the Rojiblancos have made an opening offer of €50m plus bonuses for Fernandes having scouted him extensively during the 2018/19 season, in which he managed a very impressive 32 goals and 18 assists in 53 matches for Sporting.
After reaching an amicable conclusion with Sporting over the Gelson Martins saga, Atleti are said have a positive relationship with the Liga NOS club and are hopeful of stealing a march on their rivals by getting a deal done quickly.
With Diego Godín, Juanfran and Lucas Hernandez having already left the club and Antoine Griezmann, Rodri and Jan Oblak likely to follow, it’s looking like being a big summer of transition for Diego Simeone’s side.
The acquisition of a player of Fernandes’ calibre would certainly be a hugely positive coup.
