Barcelona extended their winning streak with a 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid, as the Catalans managed to climb up to third place in La Liga.

While a great deal was at stake for both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the league standings, the fixture garnered immense attention for another reason, and that was the narrative of Joao Felix returning to face his parent club, with whom he faced a falling out.

The Portuguese ended up scoring the only goal of the night, proving to be the difference in what was an enthralling affair between two Spanish heavyweights.

Receiving the ball from Raphinha, he waltzed past Nahuel Molina to cheekily chip the ball over Jan Oblak’s head, sparing no remorse for his former teammate.

However, what followed was an expression of euphoria by Felix, which apparently did not sit well with the Atletico Madrid players.

Atletico outraged with Felix’s celebration

Indeed, as per El Partidazo de COPE, the Atletico Madrid players and fans are outraged by Joao Felix’s celebration.

As Felix jumped on the advertisement board, he stood up stoically, raising his hands toward the away supporters and gesturing a kiss to the fans.

Before the match, Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo claimed there would be nothing wrong if Felix decided to celebrate his goal, as it was only natural.

But if the report is to be believed, the Rojiblancos players do not share the same sentiment, with clear disapproval over their former teammates ‘ actions, who they believe should be showing some respect to a team he spent four years at.

Felix explained the meaning of his celebration, indicating his bitter end with the Atleti fans last summer after they booed him had something to do with his animated reaction to the goal.

“The celebration was spontaneous. It was a release from what I had been through last summer. It was for my family,” he claimed.

Considering the events of last night, Felix returning to Atletico at the end of the season appears like an implausible scenario.
