UEFA’s draw for the Champions League’s new League phase format took place on Thursday evening as Spain’s European participants learned their upcoming opponents.
Atlético Madrid were the third team to learn their fate after Barcelona and Real Madrid had been drawn from pot 1 already.
The Madrid club face home ties against RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, Lille and Slovan Bratislava at the Estadio Metropolitano between now and January.
Meanwhile, Diego Simeone’s men will face trips to France, Portugal, Austria and Czechia as part of their away ties in the revamped League phase of UEFA’s premier competition.
Fans will be keen to see how Simeone’s new-look side get on in European competition following the signing of big names like Julián Alvarez and Conor Gallagher, amongst others.
It also remains to be seen how Simeone deals with the increased workload, now that this stage of the competition sees clubs play eight matches instead of six.
