Two years after his transfer from Stade Rennais, Nayef Aguerd (28) could leave West Ham United this summer, with multiple suitors queuing up for the Morocco international.
Used to do business in Ligue 1, West Ham thought they made a solid deal when they secured the signature of Aguerd in the summer of 2022, beating fierce competition for the centre back. However, the Morocco international failed to live up to expectations under David Moyes’ tenure, between volatile performances and injuries. Last season, the former Rennes centre back only took part in 28 games across all competitions and is now pushed towards the exit as the Irons want to strengthen their back line.
According to a report by Foot Mercato, Atletico Madrid are tracking the 28-year-old centre back following the status quo of David Hancko’s (26) deal. The French outlet reveals that the Colchoneros have stepped up their efforts in their quest for a new centre back and are now pushing forward for the Morocco international. However, there is a disagreement between the two sides over the terms of the transfer. While West Ham wants to let Aguerd go on a transfer or a loan with a mandatory buy option, Atletico Madrid want a loan with a buy option, provided it is not mandatory. As of now, both clubs are not ready to change their proposals, and the deal remains on standby.
