Atletico Madrid are expected to make some major sales in the January transfer window due to their financial situation, which has taken further hit after the club’s exit from European competitions this season.

And according to journalist Miguel Martín Talavera in Carrusel Deportivo, Matheus Cunha is certain to be on his way out of the Civitas Metropolitano as Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement with Premier League Wolves over the sale of the Brazilian striker.

Cunha joined Atletico from Hertha BSC in the summer of last year amid great expectations. However, the 23-year-old has been unable to deliver on those, as he has just seven goals in over 50 appearances for Diego Simeone’s side thus far.

The Brazilian forward has found himself behind the likes of Alvaro Morata, Antoine Griezmann and Angel Correa in the pecking order this season, due to which he has started just two out of Atletico Madrid’s 21 matches across all competitions and has not scored a single goal.

With Atletico needing cash injection and Cunha not being seen as an important part of Simeone’s plans, the Rojiblancos have seemingly decided to cut ties with the former Hertha BSC striker in the winter window.

The report states that Los Colchoneros have reached an agreement with Wolves over a January transfer, although the details of the move have not been clarified.

The Premier League club recently appointed a new manager in the form of Julen Lopetegui, who is using his knowledge of La Liga to strengthen his roster, with Cunha likely to arrive at the Molineux in January if everything goes as per plan, according to the report.

Apart from Cunha, fellow forward Joao Felix is also expected to leave the Metropolitano in January, amidst interest from clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea. Los Rojiblancos, for their part, are already looking for attacking reinforcements as they prepare to offload two forwards.
