Atletico Madrid star Rodrigo de Paul has been the subject of near constant rumours regarding his future over the past 18 months, but transfer insider Matteo Moretto has moved to calm Colchonero fears that he might depart.
The Argentine midfielder has been continually linked with Juventus over the past year, and Saudi Arabia have also shown interest in him, offering a major deal to the 29-year-old last summer. However Moretto has told Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing that de Paul turned that offer down after consulting with Atletico manager Diego Simeone and Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni, and wants to continue in Europe in order to compete for major honours. Since, nothing has changed, and he remains focused on bringing success to the Metropolitano.
De Paul had a tough start to his time in Madrid, and as little as 12 months ago, Atletico fans were still whistling him and demanding his exit. Since the beginning of 2023 though, de Paul has settled into a key role under Simeone, and now remains an almost ever-present in the middle of the pitch alongside Koke Resurreccion, who looks set to renew his deal.
