Atlético Madrid saw off third place Girona to extend their gap in the top-four to five points for now.

While it was a relatively comfortable outing in the end, the home crowd were stunned in the opening five minutes when Artem Dovbyk tapped home to cap off a superb team move and give Girona the lead.

But the hosts came roaring back in dying minutes of the half, kicked off by an Antoine Griezmann strike from the spot.

Ángel Correa completed the first-half turnaround deep into stoppage time, erasing the Girona momentum.

The game was on a knife-edge after the restart, but another tally from Griezmann quickly put that feeling to bed, all but handing Atleti the three points.

Diego Simeone’s men now sit just four points behind Girona.
