Among the big names that have been linked with a move away from Valencia this summer are Carlos Soler, Gonçalo Guedes, José Luis Gayà and now Maxi Gómez.
As per Superdeporte, Valencia owner Peter Lim is looking to offload Gómez this summer. The Uruguayan has endured a relatively tricky spell at Valencia since completing his move from Celta Vigo in 2019. The 25-year-old though did land himself a large salary and that is a significant part of the reason why Valencia want to sell him.
Los Che were previously in talks with Newcastle over the potential sale of Gómez but the Premier League instead opted for Chris Wood. The main difficulty for Valencia at the moment is the player’s high salary in comparison to his market value. When they signed him in 2019, he cost €15 million.
Atlético Madrid boss Diego Simeone is interested in signing Gómez as a backup striker. With Luis Suárez gone, João Félix will take on even more responsibility up front. Simeone has less of a number nine to count on, as things stand, and for that reason, he is looking at a cheaper backup option in attack.
With another two years left on his contract, Valencia value Gómez at €12 million.
