Mauricio Pochettino announced last month that his next managerial job will either be in Spain or England and Atlético have surely taken notice.

With Diego Simeone tasked with dealing with a myriad of injury problems, a struggling LaLiga campaign, an embarrassing Copa del Rey exit to third-division side Cultural Leonesa, and Liverpool on the horizon, it’s easy to see how his eight-year stint may soon be coming to an end.

Now, according to the Telegraph, Atlético would consider moving in for Pochettino should they sack Simeone in the near-future.

Pochettino has plenty of experience in LaLiga, playing 10 years at Espanyol before starting his managerial career there in 2009, saving them from relegation in his first of just over four seasons at the club.

The Argentine has had a habit of quickly turning clubs around, securing safety with Southampton in 2013 before leading them to their highest-ever Premier League point total the following season.

At Tottenham, he took his Spurs side immediately to the EFL Cup final and helped Harry Kane’s career take off. Pochettino then secured four-straight top-four finishes and led Spurs to last year’s Champions League final in dramatic fashion.

Simeone’s career at Atlético has been nothing short of marvellous (two Europa Leagues, two Champions League final appearances, one LaLiga title), but with heavy player investment and fan unrest, he could be running short on time.
