Atlético Madrid are set to conclude their first piece of transfer business this summer with a deal for Girona’s Artem Dovbyk close to completion.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the final details are being sorted regarding the payment structure. Atlético are set to match the €40m release clause in Dovbyk’s contract and then the deal will be finalised.

The 27-year-old already has an agreement on personal terms and is itching to move to the La Liga giants. The striker had a historic season last year, scoring with his very last shot to become the year’s top scorer.

Dovbyk converted a 90th minute penalty during Girona’s 7-0 triumph over Granada on the final day, taking his tally to 24 goals. This was the first time in 15 years that the La Liga’s top scorer award has been won by a player outside of Barcelona or Real Madrid.

The Spanish side did have to accelerate their move for the forward due to competition from Premier League sides. West Ham United were monitoring the situation, however the Ukrainian looks destined to stay in Spain.
