Atletico Madrid are plotting a summer move for Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez (h/t Diario AS).
The Uruguayan international has been linked with a move away from Anfield after an underwhelming season.
He has fallen down the pecking order under manager Arne Slot, managing only eight starts in 26 Premier League games this season.
His return of seven goals in 43 appearances across all competitions further highlights his decline in form.
The Premier League champions are also open to selling the former Benfica star, who has a contract at Anfield until June 2028.
Having failed to sign him in January, Saudi giants Al Nassr are expected to go all out for Nunez in the summer with a lucrative offer.
However, Atletico are determined to win the race for Nunez, with manager Diego Simeone identifying him as a top target to reinforce their attack.
Los Rojiblancos’ forward line looks solid with the presence of Julian Alvarez, Giuliano Simeone and Alexander Sorloth, who have been impactful this season.
Moreover, star attacker Antoine Griezmann has agreed to prolong his stay with the Spanish giants, putting an end to the rumours linking him with a move to Major League Soccer.
Angel Correa’s future is hanging in the balance, with speculations mounting that he could end his association with Atletico this summer after spending a decade with the club.
Atletico view Nunez as a potential replacement for Correa, while the Uruguayan marksman is looking to revitalise his career.
Having shelled out £85 million for his transfer from Benfica, Liverpool now value Nunez between €45-€50 million.
Los Rojiblancos have also shortlisted Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cristian Romero as one of the priority targets for the summer.
The Argentine has expressed his desire for a new challenge this summer and to play in La Liga.
