La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have on Friday announced the contract termination of a long-time member of the club’s defensive ranks.
The player departing the Spanish capital in search of a new adventure? Stefan Savić.
Chatter surrounding Savić’s departure from the Metropolitano has of course long proven a headline talking point amongst those of an Atlético persuasion.
As much comes after word was forthcoming that Diego Simeone and co. had deemed the Montenegrin as surplus to requirements, amid an overhaul at the heart of defence in the Rojiblancos squad.
The Atlético brass, initially, sought out a buyer for Savić, but, amid a lack of suitors, it was decided that a contract termination would be best for all parties involved.
In turn, as per a statement across the website and social media platforms of the capital club:
‘Atlético de Madrid and Stefan Savić have reached an agreement to terminate the player’s contract. The Montenegrin leaves our club after nine seasons and 297 games defending the red and white shirt.’
Savić, as expected, has since gone on to take his talents swiftly to Turkey, confirmed as having put pen to paper on a three-year contract with Süper Lig outfit Trabzonspor:
