It took just two minutes for Atlético to take the lead through Antoine Griezmann. The ball was crossed into his path by Rodrigo de Paul and the Frenchman made no mistake with a lovely side-footed finish.

Memphis Depay made it two in the 16th minute after some nice interplay led to SaĂșl Ñíguez crossing for him to tap home from two yards out. It continued a strong start to the season for the Dutchman.

De Paul got his second assist and Atlético their third goal in the 36th minute. The World Cup winner played a long ball down the right-hand side for Nahuel Molina to run onto and finish tidily past Vallecano stopper Stole Dimitrievski.

Late into the game, Atlético ran riot with four goals in the space of 13 minutes, all coming from substitutes. An Alvaro Morata double came on either side of an Ángel Correa strike. Marcos Llorente then made it a frankly remarkable 7-0.

In an atypical Diego Simeone performance, his side had just over 40% possession but ran out convincing winners at the Estadio de Vallecas.

It is their biggest LaLiga win in 10 years and continues a promising start to the season.
