Diego Simeone spoke on Friday about when Memphis Depay will be back in the Atlético Madrid squad. The Argentine coach still has to bide his time without the Dutch forward, who has missed the last five matches due to a muscle injury.

As per Diario Sport, the Atlético Madrid coach said: “Memphis has been out for the last six games, including Saturday’s against Mallorca, due to a muscle injury. But he’ll be back soon, with the Euros around the corner, which will be a motivation for him,” he added in a press conference after the morning training session at the Ciudad Deportiva de Majadahonda.

Without the Dutch attacker – who has been out for 18 matches this season and 29 of the team’s last 61 games due to various muscle issues – as well as Antoine Griezmann, suspended, and Thomas Lemar, sidelined since September 16th with an Achilles tendon injury, Atlético heads into Saturday’s match against Mallorca with Ángel Correa leading the attack.

Simeone expressed confidence in Correa, acknowledging his consistent contributions despite occasionally not getting as much playtime as desired. “No doubt he’ll continue to be an important player for us,” Simeone affirmed.

With just five games remaining, Atlético are keen on securing their six-point lead in the Champions League spots. Simeone emphasized the challenges ahead, especially with rising competition from teams like Real Sociedad and Athletic Club.

As for his side’s recent struggles away from home, Simeone chose to keep his insights to himself this time, focusing instead on the tough upcoming match against Mallorca.
