Atlético Madrid arrested their recent slump by picking up a massively important win against Villarreal on Sunday night.
Scorers: Pedraza OG 25′, Félix 69′
After going three games without a win, including two LaLiga fixtures, their advantage at the top had started to be eaten into.
But the Rojiblancos settled their nerves with a 25th minute opener after a lengthy VAR review when Stefan Savić’s effort was diverted into the net via Alfonso Pedraza.
João Félix doubled their advantage in second half when he pounced on a loose clearance to volley in from the edge of the area and wrap up the points, although Jan Oblak had to pull off some sensational stops before the end.
The result re-establishes their five-point lead atop LaLiga, while also having a game in hand over second placed Barcelona.
