Atlético de Madrid followed up their derby delight with a superb 2-0 win away to Osasuna.
Scorers: Griezmann 20′, Riquelme 81′
We’ve become more than accustomed to these types of Atlético de Madrid performances.
Diego Simeone’s men snatched the lead through a superb Antione Griezmann strike, who somehow found the back of the net from an acute angle.
But with the lead intact, the visitors made it difficult for Osasuna to play through the lines and open the solid Atleti defence up for an equaliser.
Atleti still remained threatening on the break, the deadly duo of Griezmann and Álvaro Morata probed when Osasuna committed numbers forward, but the pair struggled to find the final killer ball.
Osasuna appeared to find the equaliser through the head of David García, but a foul in the box saw the goal chalked off, much to the dismay of the Osasuna bench.
It would quickly get worse for the home side when Atleti ripped through the Osasuna midfield before Rodrigo Riquelme capped off a superb counter-attack to all but end the tie and ensure the victory for the visitors.
Tensions boiled over from there, as Chimy Ávila and Álvaro Morata were both sent off after a scuffle in the corner, but it did little to dampen the celebrations for Atleti.
After a stunning performance against Real Madrid on derby day last time out, another win for Atleti sees them move back into the top-five in LaLiga.
