Atlético de Madrid welcomed Cådiz to the Wanda and kept hold of all three points in a five-goal thriller.
Scorers: Correa 32âČ, 66âČ, Molina 46âČ; Pires 12âČ, MartĂ 27âČ
Diego Simeoneâs men showed true character in front of a jam-packed crowd on Sunday.
The visitors initially came out flying in the first half and dampened goalkeeper Jan Oblakâs night with two goals in less than half an hour. That has only happened in five home league matches this century for Atleti.
Lucas Pires slid home at the back post to become the first Brazilian to score for CĂĄdiz before goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma assisted Roger MartĂ and the attacker chipped up and over Oblak for 2-0.
It was unusual to see Atletiâs usually solid defence so exposed, but the hosts demonstrated they have a fair bit of resilience. And the suspended Alvaro Morata was not missed.
Ăngel Correa scored on his return from injury just before the break, and the momentum carried over in the second half. Within 10 seconds of the restart, Nahuel Molina slammed home a loose ball in the box for 2-2.
The visitors exhausted their energy in the first 45, while the hosts thrived on the possibility of a stunning comeback. Correa then finished off a brilliant team move for the eventual winner.
CĂĄdiz will feel hard done by after initially coming out firing and missed a glorious chance. They sit 12th while Atleti occupy fourth, five points off leaders Real Madrid.
