MIAMI, Florida – Liga MX side Atlas will be out to turn the tables on Olimpia of Honduras when the two sides meet in the second leg of their 2023 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Round of 16 series on Tuesday night at the Estadio Jalisco in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Olimpia took control of the series with a commanding 4-1 win at home in the first leg in which FW Jorge Benguche starred with a brace. Also leaving his mark on the affair was Olimpia MF Jorge Alvarez, who contributed three assists.

In the SCCL era teams from Mexico have largely dominated the rivalry with Honduran clubs to the tune of 23 wins for Liga MX and nine for Honduran teams, to go along with six draws.

However, Olimpia arrive into this encounter having won their last two outings against Mexican opposition: last week’s 4-1 win against Atlas and a 1-0 win in Mexico City over Club America in the second leg of the 2021 SCCL Round of 16.

It will be a special night for Atlas as it will mark their first home match in Concacaf club competition. They will require a big night from their attacking forces to try to work their way back into the series, and a FW of the caliber of Julio Furch can help a lot.

The former Santos Laguna man scored the lone Atlas goal in the first leg from the penalty spot and has six goals in 10 career SCCL matches.

FW Ozziel Herrera is another that will need to step up for the home side. The 21-year-old led the team in shots taken in the first leg with three, while the steady presence of defensive midfielder Aldo Rocha should provide stability in the center of the park. Rocha completed 52 of 61 passes in the first leg and has played in five SCCL matches in his career.
