AnĂbal ChalĂĄâs first-half strike proved decisive as Atlas secured a 1-1 draw that saw them progress to the Liguilla semi-finals at the expense of their neighbours on Sunday (3-2 on aggregate).
Scorers: ChalĂĄ 45+5â˛; MacĂas 89â˛
Needing a two-goal victory to progress following Thursdayâs 2-1 defeat at home, Chivas were desperately unlucky not to open the scoring in the 20th minute.
Roberto Alvaradoâs wicked free-kick had Atlas goalkeeper Camilo Vargas beaten all ends up, but the ball clattered off the crossbar and away to safety.
The Flock were forced into a goalkeeping change 10 minutes before the break when RaĂşl GudiĂąo replaced the injured Miguel JimĂŠnez.
They almost took a lead into the interval when they hit the woodwork for a second time after a shot by JosĂŠ Juan MacĂas was deflected before looping and bouncing off the crossbar.
But it was Apertura champions Atlas who would make the breakthrough in stoppage time, as AnĂbal ChalĂĄ raced on to Aldo Rochaâs delightful pass to rifle home.
It was an even more bitter blow for Los Rojiblancos to take, knowing that the Atlas winger could easily have been sent off for a second yellow on a couple of occasions after picking up an early caution.
Atlas were reduced to 10 men when Jeremy MĂĄrquez was shown a straight red 20 minutes from time.
MacĂas did get the visitors on the scoresheet in the dying stages, but it had no effect on the outcome as the curtain came down on a disappointing Clausura campaign for Chivas.
