Atlanta United goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth announces retirement | OneFootball

Atlanta United goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth announced his retirement from soccer on Thursday.

The 35-year-old only joined the Five Stripes ahead of the 2022 season, making nine appearances across all competitions. Shuttleworth saw more action after Brad Guzan ruptured his Achilles tendon in April, but lost his place to Argentine prospect Rocco Rios Novo.

Shuttleworth's MLS career started with the New England Revolution in 2009, where he made 138 appearances across all competitions, conceding 197 goals and keeping 35 clean sheets. The goalkeeper also took in spells with the Chicago Fire and Minnesota United, while he enjoyed loan spells in USL with Western Mass Pioneers and the Sacramento Republic.

The retirement of Shuttleworth coincides with Mexico international Raul Gudiño becoming available for the Five Stripes after joining as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Chivas Guadalajara.
