Palmeiras could mathematically secure the title tonight. Yesterday’s away victory against Athletico Paranaense will crown the Big Green champions already in this round, should Internacional suffer defeat and Corinthians muster no more than a draw.
lf not tonight, the title is a matter of time. At 74 points, Palmeiras only need three more points in the last four rounds to secure the trophy regardless of the opponents.
The victory against Athletico Paranaense was at large expected, since Athletico coach Luiz Felipe Scolari lined up an alternative team, sparing his players for the Libertadores Cup final upcoming Saturday. Palmeiras exercised control and pressure as of the start but were surprised by a beauty of a shot from outside the box, Matheus Felipe opening the scorecard. So far in the 2022 Brasileirão, the Furacão had never lost a game after scoring the opener…
A substitution in halftime changed the game. Endrick would have his fourth opportunity to play for Palmeiras and the golden one showed that all the expectations exist for a reason.
In the 59th minute, Endrick stole the ball off a defender and initiated the play that ended with Gustavo Scarpa equalizing. Ten minutes later, it was the kid’s time to shine, heading a cross by Rony into the back of the net. Gustavo Gómez put final numbers to the game in the 76th minute after a corner.
Endrick’s goal broke a couple of huge records. He is now by far the youngest player in history to score for Palmeiras – 16 years and 96 days – and the youngest player to score in the Brazilian League under the current league format, in place since 2003.
Should the Brazil League title be confirmed – and it will – Endrick is going to be the only player to have won a tournament for Palmeiras in all categories: U11, U13, U15, U17, U20 and Professional. We are witnessing the birth of a star.
