Athletico Paranaense are chasing Barcelona fullback Daniel Alves.

Sport says Barcelona must decide in the coming days whether they renew Alves' contract when it expires at the end of the season, with Xavi Hernandez's side closing the campaign at home to Villarreal on Sunday.

The Brazil international is drawing interest from several clubs, despite recently turning 39, and one of them is Athletico Paranaense, the current champions of the Copa Sudamericana who are coached by the veteran Luiz Felipe Scolari.

The 'Furacao' are aware their chances of landing Alves are slim, but Scolari, the ex-Brazil coach, would be delighted to bring him in.

They are scouring the European market for experienced options, with Fernandinho, 37, tipped to return to the club where it all began for him after leaving Manchester City.
