There has been a significant development, according to The Athletic anyway.

Journalist Simon Johnson claims that Rice has changed agents and is now represented by his father Sean, who is a season ticket holder at Stamford Bridge.

They also believe that West Ham have offered Rice a new deal, but he is in no rush to sign it.

Rice himself however, is not willing to hand a transfer request in to his club out of respect, but he wants to move to a club challenging for silverware.

The conclusion of the report is that Chelsea want Rice, he is pretty keen on them, but Chelsea will have to pay West Ham over £80 million if they are to sign him, and the summer looks more likely than January.
