La Liga outfit Athletic Club have made official the identity of the club’s captain for next season.
As much, of course, comes with Iker Muniain set to bring his career-long stint on the books of Los Leones to a close over the coming weeks.
After putting Sevilla to the sword by two goals to nil on Sunday night, Athletic held a special ceremony.
This came as a farewell to both the aforementioned Muniain, and Raúl García, whose respective contracts will expire at the end of June.
As part of the same event, though, the Basque giants also made use of the opportunity to unveil the player in line to take up the captain’s armband for 2024/25.
The man in question? Óscar de Marcos.
Defender De Marcos was actually also due to see his terms at San Mamés come to an end this summer.
However, late on Sunday, Athletic Club announced that their veteran stopper has put pen to paper on a fresh deal, through the summer of 2025.
And, as part of the agreement, De Marcos has secured for himself the honour of the role of captain in Ernesto Valverde’s squad.
