Athletic Club have this evening been dealt an untimely blow on the personnel front.

As much of course comes after Ernesto Valverde’s troops kicked the latest round of La Liga fixtures into gear on Friday night.

After welcoming relegation-battling Granada to the Basque Country, Athletic were ultimately forced to settle for a hugely disappointing share of the spoils.

This comes after an early own goal on the part of Iñaki Williams was cancelled out by Gorka Guruzeta, en route to an eventual 1-1 stalemate.

Their two dropped points, however, did not prove the only setback for Athletic Club on Friday.

In addition, they were dealt a blow on the personnel front, after Óscar de Marcos picked up his latest yellow card.

The defender’s fifth of the La Liga campaign, he has in turn picked up a one-game suspension, for Matchday 33 in Spain’s top-flight.

This means that Ernesto Valverde will not be able to call on De Marcos when his side make the trip to the Wanda Metropolitano to face Atlético Madrid, in a crunch clash in the battle for European football in La Liga.
