Manchester United’s academy is famous around the world for the superstars it has produced over the years and for generally helping footballers excel professionally.

Many end up leaving the Red Devils for pastures new but still end up carving a decent career for themselves. Only the cream of the crop manage to break into the first-team squad.

One such academy jewel who has been tipped for future success is Victor Musa. The United U-18 forward has been a revelation for Travis Binnion’s side.

Musa has shone for United’s U-18 team

The 16-year-old has managed six goals and one assist for Manchester United U-18s in 16 appearances across all competitions and while he prefers playing as a left-winger, he has excelled as the team’s focal point up front.

And his displays have put La Liga giants Athletic Bilbao on high alert with Spanish journalist Luis Calabor Núñez even suggesting a move could be in the offing.

“Victor Musa, 16 years old, in 2006. Center forward who plays in the youth ranks of Manchester United. 6 goals in their last 7 U18 Premier League games. Under 19 international with England and born in… Tudela.

“It should be in Athletic’s sights in the future,” the Spaniard tweeted.

The La Liga giants have a strict policy of employing only players from the Basque region and Musa qualifies after being born in Tudela which is part of the Basque country.

Bilbao want Musa

Bilbaohiria also have discussed this story and have mentioned that he meets one of the ‘fundamental requirements’ to represent them.

Musa’s arrival at the Basque club could generate ‘debate among the most purist fans’, but his talent makes him one to look out for in the future.

Considering his age, there is time for him to make his breakthrough at United but it all depends on the club’s plans for him. As of now, the club has an abundance of left-wingers but not as many quality centre-forwards.

However, Atletico can win the bet by promising first-team involvement and they ‘cannot miss this opportunity’ to secure Musa’s services.

The outlet also stated that Musa will turn 18 in 2024 and that will be the ‘perfect time’ to sign him. Erik ten Hag might not even get the chance to see what he is made up of if this happens.
