Atalanta have won the Europa League, which means they will play either Real Madrid or Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Super Cup on August 14, plus the new UEFA-CONMEBOL Club Challenge.
La Dea had never even played in a European Final before and the only piece of silverware in their 116-year history was the 1963 Coppa Italia.
However, they crushed Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in Dublin with an Ademola Lookman hat-trick to lift the trophy.
Atalanta had already qualified for the Champions League via Serie A, so this changes nothing in that regard, but it does qualify them for two other tournaments.
The more traditional fixture is the UEFA Super Cup against the winners of the Champions League, who will be either Real Madrid or Borussia Dortmund.
That match is scheduled for August 14 in Warsaw.
The other is the new-style UEFA-CONMEBOL Club Challenge, which pits the winners of the Europa League against the victors of the Copa Sudamericana.
It was introduced last year, with Sevilla beating Independiente del Valle on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
Although yet to be formally organised, Atalanta’s opponents will be LDU de Quito.
