Atalanta to move for Stefano Pioli to replace Gian Piero Gasperini

Gian Piero Gasperini’s long and successful tenure in charge of Atalanta is clearly coming to an end now. He has been linked to multiple jobs, but it does seem like his destination will end up being Roma. So the onus now on the Bergamo club is to somehow find a suitable successor to the man who has been responsible for their recent success. As per Fabrizio Romano, Stefano Pioli is one of the candidates who Atalanta have contacted to take charge of the team next season. Pioli is coming off a poor stint at Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, failing to win any silverware with a considerably strong team including Cristiano Ronaldo. He is expected to return to Europe. Pioli is perhaps best known for his stint at Milan, with whom he won the Serie A in 2021-22. A potential problem that Pioli or whoever comes in will have to deal with us that Atalanta are likely to lose quite a bit of talent this summer. Ademola Lookman, Ederson and Mateo Retegui could all leave the club in this transfer window and they will have to reinvest well to continue playing like they have over the last few years.
