Serie A leaders Milan were handed their second loss of the season as Atalanta easily swept them aside 3-0 at San Siro on Saturday evening.
La Dea completely merited their lead at the break after Cristian Romero stooped to steer in a header following a deep cross to the far post.
In fact, so disappointing were the Rossoneri in the opening half that it was the first time all season they hadn’t managed a shot on target in that period.
But things didn’t improve after the interval as Franck Kessié was very harshly penalised for an elbow on Josip Iličić in the area and he stepped up to slam a low spot kick under Gianluigi Donnarumma.
With the Slovenian running the show, they added another in the closing stages as Romero turned provider to play in Duvan Zapata and he made mo mistake from close range.
The result leaves Milan two points clear at the top, as Inter toiled to a 0-0 draw with Udinese at the same time.
That means the Diavolo are crowned winter champions, while Atalanta are up to fourth.
