Atalanta and Mateo Retegui have had a mutually satisfying partnership this season after his transfer came together out of the blue following Gianluca Scamacca’s ACL tear last summer, but it might not last long, Tuttomercatoweb relays.
The striker, who leads Serie A in scoring, is in demand. La Dea will contemplate turning a quick profit on him. It won’t be hard to do since they paid €20M to Genoa last summer. The offers for him have already been far richer.
Atalanta and Retegui received a very lucrative bid from Saudi Arabia in January, but both turned it down to focus on the present. It wasn’t far from the fee paid by Al Nassr to pry Jhon Duran away from Aston Villa, €80M.
It’s not sure the Saudi teams will be back in the picture in the summer, and if the striker is keen on going there at 25 years old, but he’ll surely have suitors in Europe too. The Orobici will seriously ponder cashing in on him for €55/60M. Juventus have been after him for a while, but they might not splurge that much for their next no.9. Arsenal have been occasionally attached to him in the recent past.
Everything it’s up in the air for them until they know whether Gian Piero Gasperini and director Tony D’Amico will stay or leave. Their long-time gaffer surely wouldn’t mind having both him and Gianluca Scamacca together as he likes a deep frontline, but it’d be overkill considering their caliber and valuations. They’d have to be certain about the latter’s health after two big injuries in a row to sell the likely ‘capocannoniere,’ though.
