La Dea made the journey to Merseyside with a full squad save for injured defender Giorgio Scalvini, who is out for circa a month with a serious thigh strain.

Charles De Ketelaere would usually be starting, but is still not fully fit following a muscular issue on international duty with Belgium.

It was assumed that the battle for one spot was between Aleksei Miranchuk and Ademola Lookman, with the former more creative and the latter using his pace on the counter-attack to trouble the Liverpool defence.

Instead, Sky Sport Italia suggest that Mario Pasalic is going to start as a double trequartista with Teun Koopmeiners behind centre-forward Gianluca Scamacca.

Pasalic is more of a midfielder than a forward, so his presence can provide more tactical versatility to drop back and fill the spaces, but at the same time also push forward where he has an eye for goal.

The former Chelsea and Milan midfielder is particularly dangerous in the air and on set plays.
