The success keeps coming for Atalanta, as Gian Piero Gasperini and Papu Gomez finally made up over three years after their bitter split.
La Dea have made it into the Coppa Italia Final, which is on Wednesday against Juventus, and the Europa League Final with Bayer Leverkusen.
They also leapfrogged Roma into fifth place in the Serie A standings, with a game in hand, so are on track for Champions League qualification.
The positive vibes surrounding Atalanta have spread to off the field situations too, as there was a wonderful moment today when Gasperini and Papu Gomez hugged and made up.
The pair had been so close in Bergamo and Gomez was a hero to the fans, but it all fell apart during a half-time locker room blazing row in the Champions League match with Midtjylland in December 2020.
The Argentina international demanded a transfer and he got it, going to Sevilla, then returning to Monza in January only to immediately be suspended for violating anti-doping rules.
Peace was brokered by Gasperini’s assistant manager Tullio Gritti and the owner of Caffe del Tasso in Bergamo, who is good friends with both men.
This is where they met and sat down for dinner, with the promise that hopefully Gomez will be back at the Gewiss Stadium to cheer on his former teammates.
