Atalanta Coach Gian Piero Gasperini: “We Deserved More Than A Draw Against Inter” | OneFootball

Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini believes that his team were unfortunate to take only a point away from their match against Inter in Serie A yesterday evening.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the match, the coach gave the view that La Dei’s performance was worthy of more than a draw despite the 0-0 result.

Neither the Nerazzurri nor La Dei were at their best but both showed flashes of their quality and consistently showed their organization.

Both teams carved out a few presentable opportunities to score, but Inter were not clinical with the best chances that came their way, whilst the home side saw their best efforts saved by Nerazzurri captain Samir Handanovic.

Gasperini feels that his side could have taken all three points rather than having to share the points with the Nerazzurri based on the run of play and on the chances created.

“We had a great match,” he reflected. “Difficult match given the quality of Inter. I disagree that we weren’t at our best, I think we showed a lot especially given the significance of the occasion.”

Of the tactical battle, Gasperini stated that “They built up deep with their goalkeeper and waited for us to come out to play their combinations. But overall we did well.”

“In the final minutes we dropped off deeper because they put on two fresh forwards,” he added.

Gasperini concluded that “All our players had a great match, and I think we even deserved more than a draw.”
