L’Équipe report tonight that Atalanta have made a concrete approach for Rayan Cherki, although Lyon remain confident that their attacking midfield prospect will renew his contract with his formative club.
La Dea’s move for the 19-year-old was rejected straight away by the Ligue 1 side, who did not even enter into talks. Among the other clubs interested in the past few weeks were two German clubs competing in the Champions League, as well as Nice.
The long-running contract extension talks between the player and Lyon are said to be advancing positively, with the French youth international set to sign a short-term renewal – one or two years – with his current deal expiring at the end of the season.
Cherki, who made just 16 appearances in an injury-hampered campaign last season, will keep the same financial conditions. Overall, he has played 64 games for the club, scored nine goals and registered ten assists, and is considered one of the club’s brightest ever youth prospects.
