İstanbul Başakşehir have claimed that a loan deal has been agreed with Aston Villa for winger Trézéguet.

The 27-year-old, who has helped Egypt reach the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations, has fallen down the pecking order at Villa Park since the arrival of Philippe Countinho on loan from Barcelona.

Trézéguet has previous experience of playing in Turkey, and it was Kasımpaşa he joined the Villans from back in 2019.

Başakşehir president Göksel Gümüşdağ told NTV Spor that terms had been reached with the Premier League club, although there has been no confirmation of it from the Midlands.

“We have agreed with Aston Villa on the loan transfer of Trézéguet. He will join the team soon,” Gümüşdağ said.

Trézéguet, who missed most of the first half of the season due to knee surgery, has played just 10 minutes of first-team football so far this term.

However he has regained fitness at a crucial time for his national side, and proved the matchwinner with an injury-time goal on Sunday that propelled the Pharoahs to a 2-1 win over Morocco.

Trézéguet will hope that contribution will earn him a starting place against hosts Cameroon in Thursday’s semi-final.
