Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Sanson is set for a return to France, with the former Marseille man on the verge of completing a loan move to Strasbourg until the end of the season, according to L’Équipe.
The deal will not include an option to make the move permanent. The 28-year-old, who scored his first goal since joining the Villans two years ago in a cup tie against Stevenage earlier this month, was short on game time in Birmingham.
The out-of-favour midfield has registered just 23 appearances in all competitions since making the move across the Channel, having previously been a consistent starter for OM.
He now joins a struggling Strasbourg side who have been active in the transfer market in order to improve their recent fortunes – having only won twice this season – with full-backs Frédéric Guilbert and Eduard Sobol. There has been upheaval on the bench too for the Alsatians, with former assistant Mathieu Le Scornet replacing Julien Stéphan after the latter’s sacking earlier this month.
