Chelsea are looking for defensive reinforcements for next season, and are said to be monitoring Aston Villa’s Matt Targett.
The Blues are looking to strengthen their options at left-back, and have been impressed with the 24-year-old’s performances for the struggling Villains.
Targett, a product of Southampton’s academy system, only moved to Villa Park from the Saints last summer.
He has nailed down a starting spot with Dean Smith’s men, featuring 24 times since arriving in the Midlands.
A report from According to 90min.com suggests Chelsea view Targett as a cost-effective alternative should some of their higher profile options fall through.
Chelsea have been linked with a host of left-backs, including Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell, Porto’s Alex Telles, and Basel’s Blas Riveros.
Villa were fighting for their survival before the Premier League was suspended last month because of the Covid-19 outbreak.
They lie second from bottom in the table, albeit with a game in hand over the teams around them.
