Marco Asensio (29) has no intention of returning to his parent club PSG, according to L’Equipe. The Spaniard will make his return to the Parc des Princes on Wednesday for the Champions League quarter-finals first leg, but as an Aston Villa player. The former Real Madrid attacking midfielder joined Unai Emery’s Villans on loan during the winter transfer window as his playing time dwindled under the tutelage of Luis Enrique.
Since he set foot in Birmingham, Asensio seems to have found his Real Madrid form back. The three-time Champions League winner with Los Merengues (2017, 2018, 2022) has logged eight goals and one assist in 11 games in all competitions for Aston Villa. Asensio has scored more goals with the Premier League club in three months than with PSG since 2023. The Spaniard joined Les Parisiens as a free agent, putting pen to paper over a three-year deal set to expire in 2026.
Asensio has made it clear already that he won’t seek to renew his contract, nor return to PSG, paving the way for a permanent exit this summer. L’Equipe understands that Aston Villa president of football operations, Monchi, hopes to retain him beyond the current campaign. Meanwhile, the outlet adds that PSG have received numerous enquiries regarding Asensio.
