Aston Villa host Brentford in the Premier League on Wednesday night aiming to address an alarming slump in form.
Unai Emery’s side extended their winless run to eight games across all competitions at the weekend, after losing 3-0 at Chelsea. Second-best at Stamford Bridge, it continued a downturn that has seen The Villans drop to 12th in the Premier League table.
However, the congested nature of the top half means Aston Villa are just four points from the Champions League places. There’s plenty to play for as we head into the festive period.
Aston Villa are likely to be without Emi Martinez, who was substituted at Chelsea with a hand injury. The experienced Robin Olsen will replace the Argentina international in goal.
Amadou Onana and Jacob Ramsey remain out, absences that could hand a start to Ross Barkley in central midfield.
Ollie Watkins has scored just once in his last eight appearances and could make way against his former team, with Jhon Duran pushing for a start. The Colombian is Villa’s leading scorer in all competitions (8) despite much of his football coming from the bench.
Aston Villa predicted XI: Olsen; Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne; Barkley, Tielemans; Bailey, Rogers, McGinn; Watkins.
