Aston Villa are targeting an eye-catching move for João Félix after sanctioning the £50.5 million sale of their club record signing, Moussa Diaby, to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad.
That is according to the Guardian, who state that Félix is one of several players under consideration as the club prepares for their first Champions League campaign in over 40 years.
The 24-year-old joined Atlético de Madrid as a teenager in 2019 for a staggering €126m (£106m) from Benfica, but has spent much of the last two seasons out on loan, first at Chelsea and then Barcelona.
He scored 10 goals in 44 appearances for Barça, but there appears to be no interest in making the deal permanent.
Villa have already been one of the busiest sides to date in the transfer window, with several players joining and leaving.
Ian Maatsen, Ross Barkley, Samuel Iling-Junior, Enzo Barrenechea, Jaden Philogene, Lewis Dobbin have already arrived, with a £50m deal for Everton’s Amadou Onana also reportedly close to being finalised.
