Aston Villa have made an official offer to sign Toulouse centre-back Jaydee Canvot, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.
Manager Unai Emery is keen to strengthen several areas of his squad as the club prepares for their Europa League campaign next season.
The bid sent to Toulouse has not been accepted, but discussions between both clubs are ongoing.
Several other European clubs are monitoring the defender’s progress.
The 18-year-old is one of Toulouse’s brightest prospects and only made his senior debut at Lens in January.
The France Under-19 international recently played in the Maurice Revello Tournament, where his side emerged as champions.
The event was attended by scouts from several top European clubs, who were impressed by the young defender’s performances.
Although naturally a centre-back, Canvot can also play in midfield. This versatility has made him even more attractive to clubs seeking players who can fill various roles.
Known for his calmness on the ball, Canvot shows maturity beyond his age and is confident in building from the back.
He is also strong in one-on-one duels and has the physicality to handle senior-level football.
However, some scouts have pointed out areas he needs to improve, including his decision-making and tendency to give away fouls.
There have also been concerns about lapses in concentration during games, which he will need to work on as he gains experience.
Villa’s pursuit of the teenager highlights the club’s focus on adding youthful talent with long-term value and high potential.
