Aston Villa are trying to sign Toulouse defender Jaydee Canvot, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
The 18-year-old broke into the Toulouse starting XI last term, making 18 Ligue 1 appearances across the backline.
He is exceptionally versatile and can even fill in as a defensive midfielder.
The France Under-19 international defender helped Toulouse keep two clean sheets. He won an average of 53 percent of his aerial and 43% of his ground duels.
Canvot is a physical unit and looks ready for the Premier League, even though remaining in France might be best for his development.
Canvot’s contract runs until 2029, and Toulouse reportedly value him at around €20 million.
Whether Villa will pay such a steep sum for a player with only 12 top-flight starts in Ligue 1 is unclear.
He could initially start with Villa’s Under-21s before working his way into the first team.
Villa are surprisingly quiet this summer, despite closing a deal for goalkeeper Marco Bizot, but things could soon kick off in the transfer market.
They are battling hard to ward off interest in Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers, with big Premier League clubs eager to sign the pair.
Keeping them will be a priority for the club, even though Villa are looking at Samu Aghehowa of FC Porto and Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.
