Aston Villa are progressing in talks to sign out-of-favour Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlo Soler (27), according to a report from L’Équipe.

The boos and jeers from his own fans at the  Parc des Princes on Sunday confirmed what Soler has already long since known – his future does not lie at PSG. The Spaniard collected his Ligue 1 winners’ medal for the second consecutive year, however, he has played a peripheral role in Les Parisiens’ success this season, playing just 993 minutes in France’s top-flight over the course of the title-winning campaign.

Talks over a move to Aston Villa, who on Tuesday night secured their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League, have been taking place for many months. L’Équipe reports that those talks are advancing, however, the question mark revolves around PSG’s valuation of the player, who arrived for €18m in 2022 and who has a contract that runs until 2027.
