The Red and Greens announced the transfer via a post on their official Twitter account this afternoon.
McAteer made her senior debut for Aston Villa last season. She came off the bench to feature in the club’s 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup. The midfielder was named on the bench again last weekend as The Villans defeated Manchester City 4-3 in a thrilling Barclays Women’s Super League match at Villa Park.
While McAteer has little experience in the senior game, the midfielder was a regular for Aston Villa’s WSL Academy League side last season. The youngster made 19 appearances for The Villans in which she scored 18 goals. The player will now be hoping to flourish in the senior game under the guidance of Lee Burch at Coventry United, a coach who has an excellent track record of developing young talent.
Coventry United are still searching for their first points in this season’s Barclays Women’s Championship. The Red and Greens have suffered three straight defeats including an 8-0 mauling at Sheffield United last weekend. Coventry United do have some talented players in their ranks and the general feeling is that some positive results will come sooner or later.
