In a recent tweet, renowned journalist Ekrem Konur mentioned that Aston Villa are locked in a three-way tussle for Aberdeen starlet Calvin Ramsay. It is understood that the Villans will have to rival Manchester United and Arsenal in the race to sign the Scottish prospect.

Ramsay’s Impressive Numbers In Scottish Football This Season

The 18-year-old has made an incredible start to this season as he has put in a handful of eye-catching displays on the right side of Aberdeen’s defence. Ramsay participated in 16 matches for the Scottish club in the previous campaign, picking up seven assists in the process across various competitions.

The Aberdeen-born right-back has given a good account of himself by averaging 0.6 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 1.9 clearances, 3.0 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in the Scottish Premiership. He has even distributed possession relatively well from the right flank, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 82.1% in the top tier of Scottish football (stats via whoscored).

Is Ramsay A Prospect For The Future?

Ramsay has shown a lot of maturity with his performances this season and has proven his worth as a good playmaker from the right-wing. He can time his tackles well to earn the ball back for his team and can even put his foot through the ball to clear the danger when at risk of being caught out at the back.

The Scottish whizkid is also a tidy passer of the ball and can make some encouraging runs with the ball in the opposition half. However, he is still quite raw and would need time before he can establish himself as a top performer at the highest level.

Aston Villa need to invest in some young players if they want to build a strong squad for the long run. Ramsay fits the bracket perfectly as he is an emerging young talent who has the potential to become a world-class right-back at Villa Park in the future. Therefore, Dean Smith should consider getting him on board in January or at the end of this campaign because Ramsay is definitely a prospect to watch out for in the coming seasons.
